Filming Schedule

Filming Days

Saturday 9th November

filmed more close up shots

Wednesday 25th November

Going to our location to finish filming and  give ourselves enough footage to produce our final music video

Evaluation of our Progress

Our first draft was very dissapointing as we occured difficulties with a lot of different factors, these included the band members, equipment and the venue. We filmed our draft in a village hall. this wasn't our preferred location, but due to our poor planning and the time deadline that we had to stick to we were forced to use it. The lighting in the room was that of a very poor standard and it severely impacted the visual quality of the video.

We only did a one shot video which we were very dissapointed about, this was partly down to our own poor organisation and also the camera ran out of charge half way through recording. We also didnt have a very good plan or storyboard so this didnt help us in the process at all.

We realised that we let ourselves down on the draft and so we started to plan our new video for the next week. So we have made our second draft straight the way and we were very happy with how this turned out.

There were a few shots that we were not happy about and so we will need to make changes to these for our final video. Our last shot was to serious and our video throughout has been that of quite fun and had a happy feel about it. So the ending didn't really fit in with the rest of the video.

We encountered some difficulties with our filming day due to a lack of battery on the camera which limited us to only a few a hours of filming and we spent a lot of time charging the camera, this was not very time effective and was a frustrating situation.

We are planning on filming some more shots to ensure that we produce the highest quality video we can to achieve the best mark possible. We have the basis to produce a really good music video and now we just need to build on this to make sure we progress to a high standard.

Location and schedule for our music video.

This was our main location for our video. We used the main reception as it had very distinctive features such as the very large spiral staircase. We filmed just in front of this, with the equipment at either side of our artists.

We also filmed in a couple of other rooms to add variety to our video. The second room we used was that of a large open space with two tall pillars in the centre of the room. During our shooting in this room we were forced to use natural light, thankfully it was a rather bright day and the windows in the building were very large, this I believe was due to the fact that it is a very old property that has been modernised but also has kept some of its old distinctive features such as the windows.

The other room we used was the library facility for the building, this therefore meant that the room was slightly darker and when we were filming in the library, the evening was closing in so this in turn meant that that we were forced to use artificial light in the form of several spotlights that were already in place in the building. Surprisingly the light that the spotlight provided was very good, and worked extremely well. As we focused the spotlights on our main lead singer, it made him stand out and highlighted him above the rest of the artists and overall the band setup.

We tried to use the features that the building possessed as we felt we must take every opportunity to make our video as original and unique as possible.

We did consider throughout the day using a couple of exterior shots due to the fact that the scenery was really picturese and nice. But we went against the idea and thought we would try to stick to the theme of continuity with whole video being inside.

Risk Assessment

There are a lot of risks involved in shooting a music video and we will have to tackle these as the process goes on. The big risks will be the locations and also ensuring that our artists are always safe when we are filming.

The weather will be a big factor in the shooting of the video as we are planning on shooting in a light setting and so if the weather changes such as rain or fog then filming will need to be suspended. This would be a high risk as filming can be completely stopped and so this would have a big effect on us. We can prevent this happening by checking the weather forecasts for the days that we are filming and only film on sunny days, if the weather is sunny we need to ensure that everybody is hydrated.

Another risk is the camera and tripod and the risk is that the tripod could easily get knocked over and so can the camera. The camera could also run out of battery which would be nightmare for filming there also might not be enough space on the memory card. This would be a high risk as we need to ensure that somebody is watching the camera to ensure that it doesn't get knocked over as the camera would become damaged and we wouldn't be able to film. Also we need to bring a charger with us and also a spare memory card to ensure that we don't run out of space and we have a backup.

The artist would be a risk as well although a low risk as they could forget to turn up for the shoot and they also may turn up at the wrong location. We would ensure that this didn't happen by either sharing lifts with our artists or constantly reminding them of the location.
We also need to ensure that no slipping, tripping or falling takes place, this could be considered as a medium to high risk. As we will be filming some scenes outside the grass or pavement maybe damp or slippy so we will need to ensure that we can handle this by making sure that everyone is wearing the appropriate footwear and clothing. We also need to ensure that people take their time when they are preparing for a scene.

We must look after the equipment and ensure that nothing is broken as this could seriously effect us when shooting the video as we may also lose any previous footage that has been shot as a result of the camera being broken. This would be considered as a medium risk due to the fact that equipment can always be replaced. To ensure this didn't occur we could have somebody watching the equipment at most times as well as letting everybody know whereabouts all the equipment is. In the case of the memory card being broken we could upload our footage every 20 minutes onto a computer to ensure that it is not lost.

We are considering have a few shots of the artists in cars and so this could be a very high risk as there is the possibility that a crash could take place at any time. And so we would need a very confident driver who feels they would have the ability to be able to concentrate on the road as well as being filmed for the video.

To ensure everybody turns up for video we would have to ensure everyone is aware of the location and time that we are meeting. As if somebody forgets to turn up for the shoot then we are missing out on valuable time to shoot the video.

Clothes are also a vital part of the music video as we need to ensure that they are styled in the way that we want them to be, so they must remember to bring the correct clothes, if they don't then the whole shoot Will be ruined as there will be no point in filming as it wont suit the style that we want to achieve. So we will have to notify our artists before we film to ensure they are aware of what they need to bring.

Equipment Used

We will be using an iMac to put our videos onto as we will be using the software on the mack to be editing the footage with. Due to the iMacs larger screen it will be easier for us to identify the best shots that will suit our video more.

We are going to be using a tripod as it will give us the ability to shoot completely still shot, the tripod will also give us height with the camera and so if we want to shoot any high angle shots this will give us the ability to do it. The tripod will also give us the ability to create low shots if we want to use them.
We are going to use Final Cut Pro that is a editing software that will give us the ability to make a really good music video. Final Cut Pro enables us to edit sound, add video effects and creative text etc. This is everything we need to produce a video it also allows us to produce it in a high quality.

We are going to use the Cannon EOS 11D it has a good HD quality, another reason is that we want to do a variety of shots and this camera will allow us to do this. The camera gives us a lot of mobility as well. There are a lot of different settings as well on the camera and so this will greatly enhance our video.

Artist Profile

Our artists are that of 3 lads at the age of 17/18. All three of the lads fit into the genre of Indie/Pop due to there looks.

Jack Gogerty:The keyboarder. Brad himself can actually play the keybpard properly. This will ensure that the video will look more real and legit, that if we had someone who couldn't really play the drums.

Brad Dunkley:The frontman/Lead singer. Ben actually does sing in small gigs and in venues this therefore means that he will hopefully look the part as he is used to performing on a regular basis. Brad Dunkley, in the video is wearing sunglasses, this is due to the fact that he aspires to be similar to Noel Gallager.

Christy Hughes: The guitarist. Bases himself on a mainstream artist such as olly murs for example. This is shown by the clothes he is wearing.

Overall I believe that the band together, created a good mix. As the three characters in the band are slighlty different from eachother, but this therefore means that they gel together really well.

Artist Comparisons.

Artist comparisons.

Our female artist in the video is going to be a women with a lot of attitude and emotion. This will ensure that we will match the lyrics that are in the song, as it is clear that the song is based around an argument about a couple, who are very much rapped up in there own world. The female artist 'Ellie Cartwright' in our case will be performing in quite a dramatic and overexajerating manner, this is too over anticipate the stereotype of the female gender. The overall image and personality of our female artist will hopefully be that of over dramatic but nice girl.

On the other hand the male artist in our video will be acting in quite a subtle and quiet manner to give the impression that he doesn't care at all, and is really not bothered, again this matches the stereotype of the male gender.

Both of these concepts combined together, ensure that we have a perfect stereotype to base our couple on. This should give the video a very realistic feel to it, so therefore the audience that we are targeting will be able to really relate to the video and very much enjoy it at the same time.

The picture below is a picture of our female artist Ellie.

We feel Ellie has some kind of resemblance and similarity to Lana del Rey.

Audience Profile

We are targeting a 16-24 audience for 'Chunky Passion" this is because we feel that this age group will be able to relate to the music video that we are going to produce. Our audience will be very creative and looking to expand their taste in music to wider variety. They like a mixture of both independent and mainstream artists.

  • Non Judgemental
  • Open Minded
  • Individuality
Chunky Passion will also appeal to our target audience as they will be able to relate to the couple that will be portraying a relationship on the video and so we are planning on the couple showing going through a rough time in their relationship and so we hope certain people who are going through a difficult time will be able to relate to this.

Using UK tribes we came to the conclusion that our target audience would be Indie Scenesters.
This audience is not afraid of listening to new music and discovering new genres. They are creative people who have an interest in music and fashion, they also like a mixture of mainstream artists and new up and coming music.

  • Broad Music Taste
  • Have their own music taste
  • Fans of our chosen band- Passion Pit
Our artist will also appeal to our audience as our song 'Carried away' by Passion pit suits the style of 'Indie Scenesters'. The two people in our band will be very down to earth and quirky which will help the audience relate to this. We are trying to give of the impression that our band really care about the music, just like the fans do. We feel that people who are looking to expand their music taste will really enjoy our song choice and also enjoy watching our music video and how we portray the actions of the band.

Our band have a real passion for new music and fashion and so this makes them like the 'Indie Scensters' this means that the popularity of the band will be a lot higher than if they were in a opposing tribe.

Band style.

Male artist clothing.

All the above clothing, we really feel that it fits in with the genre we are doing, which is that of Indie/Pop. We are planning to style our artists in this sort of attire to ensure that our target audience can relate to the artists in the video. The look we have gone for is that of a Indie/pop style, this is due to the fact that this will ensure that the clthing fits in with the style of music we aee trying to pull off and portray. The clothing above is that of in the style that matches with the UK tribes 'tribe' called indie scenesters.
