Music Video Analysis- The Weekend- The Zone

This video starts with a car driving down the road in darkness and all you can see is the yellow lines down the middle. This creates a dark atmosphere. The next clip shows a pair of eyes appear in black and stare at the camera as fog blurs the road. The connotations of that clip are that these eyes appear to be judging whoever is driving the car. It may represent a guilty conscious of the driver or that somebody is watching over him.

The video puts in a room full of balloons with a girl sitting on a couch smiling and giggling to herself she is wearing a lot of makeup and it could be interpreted that she is in a dream world and this is why she cant stop smiling. This room could be her 'Zone' as she is taken to this changed place and then bought back to reality which turns her fantasy into a nightmare.

During Drakes verse smashed lamps are shown on the floor and the girl is wearing a red dress, the lights are also flickering and she starts to panic, this shows that she is having a nightmare in her 'Zone'. The room then goes dark and is flooded with popping balloons.

The end of the video sees a reappearance of the eyes on the road and its as if to say that surreal experience has come to an end.

We have taken a lot of inspiration from this video and it has given us a lot of ideas to what we can do for our music video. The video is telling a story and the Weeknds dark style of music compliments the video really well and you can clearly see how the video relates to the song. This is the sort of video that me and my partner are planning on doing .

Music Video Analysis- Passion Pit, Carried Away

Carried Away is a song by Passion Pit it is from their second album 'Gossamer' and falls into the genre of alternative rock.

The video itself shows a troubled relationship between a couple who are arguing and quarrelling frequently. Throughout the video their relationship becomes weaker , but as the video nears its end the two reconcile their differences and take it back to what it used to be like at the start of the relationship.

The video doesn't actually show any members of the band and instead has 2 actors portraying the troubled couple, this video gave us ideas and inspiration for our own music video and we are thinking of using some ideas from this video and trying to put our own twist on them for our own video.

There is also no lip syncing in this video except from when the title of the song is sung 'carried away' and we were thinking of doing something like this in our own video as we like the idea of not having to lip sync throughout the whole video and having the song just being played over the video.

The video does follow the conventions of the genre in certain elements such as the locations used and also how the video relates to the song, so that you can see the lyrics being portrayed in the video. You can tell that a love story is being portrayed and the video is not disjunctive.

Music Video Analysis- Kendrick Lamar Swimming pools

Swimming Pools is a song by Hip Hop artist Kendrick Lamar and is the second single from his debut album 'good kid, m.A.A.d City'. The video was directed by Jerome D.

We have taken some inspiration from this video, we like the idea of the glass bottles smashing on the floor and also the girl in the plain white room and we will be looking to incorporate this into our own video. The use of slow motion is also a big factor in this video and this is quite unusual in a hip hop video as they are usually very fast paced.

There are only 3 colours used in this video which is red, black and white, I think these colours show a very dark video and this is something that we could use in our own video. There are a lot of quick edits in this video and also a mixture if close ups and long shots.
