Indie Pop Genre.

So we have chosen to enter the Indie pop genre. Personally i feel this is the middle man between really Indie Bands for exaple and more of a pop band such as 'One Direction'. Our band 'Chunky Passion' will be somewhere inbetween the two bands I named above.

Indie pop is a genre of alternativ rock music that originated in the United Kingdom in the mid-1980s, with its roots in Scottish post-punk bands on the Postcard Records label in the early '80s (Josef K and Orange Juice) and the dominant UK independent band of the mid-'80s, The Smiths. Indie pop was inspired by punk's DIY ethic and related ideologies, and it generated a thriving fanzine, label, and club and gig circuit. Indie pop differs from indie rock to the extent that it is more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst-free.
The term "indie" had been used for some time to describe artists on independent labels (and the labels themselves), but the key moment in the naming of "indie pop" as a genre was the release of NME's C86 tape in 1986. The compilation featured, among other artists, Primal Scream, The Pastels, and The Wedding Present, and "indie" quickly became shorthand for a genre whose defining conventions were identified as jangling guitars, a love of '60s pop, and melodic power pop song structures (the genre was initially dubbed "C86" after the tape itself).
In the mid to late '80s, indie pop was criticized for its associations with so-called "shambling" (a John Peel-coined description celebrating the self-conscious primitive approach of some of the music) and underachievement, but the C86 indie pop scene is now recognized as a pivotal moment for independent music in the UK, as is recognized in the subtitle of that compilation's 2006 extended reissue: CD86: 48 Tracks from the Birth of Indie Pop. Indie pop continues to have a strong following and inspire musicians, not just in the UK but around the world, with new bands, labels and clubs devoted to the sound.

Band Name

We have decided to name our band Empire Colours!

This is our unique logo for our band Chunky Passion.I believe we have followed the conventions we found in our research of band logos but adapted them to incorporate a two colour scheme of blue and black. To match with a the humourous feel of the name,as i feel the colour is very light hearted.

Twitter Account

We have set up a Twitter Account 'ChunkyPassion"
We will be posting regularly so people will be able to hear new stuff about the band.

Possible music scenes.

The picture above is that of victoria park in leicester this i feel would be areally good location to shoot parts of our music video. I believe this would be very good due to the fact that it is an extremely natural place in the outdoors.

In contrast to the outdoor natural scene we are going tot go for an inside area to film part of the music video as i feel, this will work really well, to fit in with the stereotype of couples always having domestic arguemnts in there house. An indoor space could be that of either my house or Kane's house. The decor in both is pretty similar so this would ensure we could proably film in both the houses (in differnt rooms) without the audience really noticing that it is a different house.

Chosen song

"Carried Away"

Since my heart is golden
I've got sense to hold in
Tempted just to make an ugly scene
No I'm not as proper, my money's in copper
Ripped down from the brownstones to the street

Listen, I'm your friend (don't quote me)
But not a friend worth noting
Yes, please don't ever note me as your friend

Who says we have cold hearts?
Acting out our old parts
Let's perform our favourite little scene

I get carried away
Carried away from you
And I'm hoping and I'm praying
Cause I'm sorry, sorry about that
Sorry about the things that I said
Always let it get to my head

All your appeal
Once again with feeling
Higher education making sense

Justify your thesis
Certain that you need this
Tell me what your point is in defence

Listen, I don't really know you
And I don't think I want to
But I think I can fake it if you can

And let's agree there's no need
No more talk of money
Let's just keep pretending to be friends

I get carried away
Carried away from you
And I'm hoping and I'm praying
Cause I'm sorry, sorry about that
Sorry about the things that I said
Always let it get to my head
[x2]

Wake up in the morning
Wake up in the evening
Wake up when you want to
'Cause no one's really watching
Well she'll have something to say about it but
We all have problems
We're all having problems
And we've all got something to say

I get carried away
Carried away from you
And I'm hoping and I'm praying
Cause I'm sorry, sorry about that
Sorry about the things that I said
Always let it get to my head

Music video song final decision

After several debates considering the genre of our music video we have finally come to a final decision on what we aim to achieve.

From the very start of the process I have been considering all genres such as Hip/hop R and B, Pop, Indie, Dance, Electro etc.
All of these genres are very different in there ways, some like hip hop and R and B are very flashy and revolve around money, on the other hand some genres are very much dumb down and quite subtle such as Indie.

Personally I feel it is vital to ensure that whatever genre you take on you have the  sufficient knowledge and experience to carry off the project in a skilled manor. Also I feel it is very important to make sure all equipment is available to make the video to the best of your ability. This is one of the main reasoned we have steered away from the music genre of pop as we felt this type of genre requires a lot of editing and equipment that is not available to us. Also another factor that urged us away from that of those particular genres was that of where would we film it? As the background of most pop songs is almost 9/10 exotic and incredible! Obviously this type of background and scene is not really accessible to us.

After considering these options very carefully we have come to the conclusion that we are going to use the song 'Carried Away' by Passion Pit. We feel we have the capabilities to produce a good music video in this particular genre.
