Question 4
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning, and evaluation?
Twitter- I used the social networking site twitter to advertise our band Empire colours. We attempted to reach our target market through twitter due to the fact that after researching what our target markets hobbies were we found out they are big users of twitter so we thought it was a very good idea to use it. When using this social networking site we engaged with our audience through tweeting links to our music video in progress and behind the scene shots, we also posted the poster and the digipak during the process. We asked our followers to send us through some feedback about the final music video and the poster/ digipak. Through this we managed to receive some feedback from our followers that we could take on board and hopefully improve our final media products.
Facebook- This is also another social networking site that we used during our promotion campaign. We set up a Facebook page where we constantly posted quotes from our band members but also Images and songs that the band may like to cover in the near future. Facebook also allowed us to contact other band s in a similar situation as our selves. Both Facebook and twitter link well together as we could request people to follow us but also like our Facebook page at the same time.
Photoshop- I have used this software programme to develop our brand logo. It helped me in many ways due to the fact that i have used it previously so this meant it came quickly to me rather than learning the ropes. The tools that are avaiable on photoshop helped me massively as it has everything that you need to make a very professional and legit logo for the band Empire Colours.
Iphone- I used this product to do several voice overs throughout the duration of the process. Also i used the iPhone to post blog posts and updates. This helped me massively due to the fact that i could send posts whilst i was on the go using the internet connection i had on my phone. Also the Iphone allowed me to
Blogger- This was one of the main internet sites i used during the creation of my music video and other ancillary texts. I posted all of my inspiration on here along with filming schedules, lyrics to our song, preparation for music video, certain tasks that needed completing etc. Also we received feedback on all of our media products along with the general work i have been doing throughout the course. Feedback often comes from class mates and media teachers.
Youtube- This social networking site allows us to post our final music video. This published our video live, for anyone to see and hopefully again receive some feedback from elsewhere. Also this site allowed us to do our research and planning as it was easy to just type in the music videos we wanted to watch and that was it. This made researching videos very quick and efficient.
Scribd- This is a word processor type of programme which allows me to type up essays and then therefore post them on the main site blogger.
Email- I particularly used Gmail to communicate with the owner of Donnington Hall which is where we filmed our music video at. The email software allowed me to have an ongoing chat with the owner of the hall and therefore deicide a date and time when we could hire out the venue.
Animoto- This helped me immensely when trying to present my music video idea to the rest of my college class, for example I managed to insert Images and inspiration that i had found into this Animoto with a musical theme over the top. Animoto is very effective due to the fact that it makes it looks more professional than a normal powerpoint.
Final cut- This helped me to edit my video together which at the start was just a lot of clips mixed up in a file. The final cut pro software has all the available tools to make the music video look very professional and legit. I may also use it for some of my evaluations that are in video clip format.
Digital cam- We used one of the cameras from the college media department, to take shots of the venue. This camera allowed us to take still shots of some of the equipment such as the guitar.
Digital video- This video camera was a canon d550. It has an 18 megapixel lens with it so this provides very good quality for the music video. We used this for the whole duration of the music video. This also helped to have a more professional music video as it was more clear and sharp like a real music video would be.
Iphone camera- I used this to take many photos of the venue and upload them onto the blog. I did this to contribute to our research and planning as a whole.
Microsoft office-
Sound cloud- We used this software to upload an inspiration playlist onto our blog to display what we wanted to be similar to. The playlist contained songs from bastille etc.
Safari- This was my main source of information as this was my main provider for my research and planning. This software allowed me to access many different websites along with ones i have previously mentioned such as youtube, Facebook and twitter.
Text message- I used text messaging to communicate with Kane Johnson my media partner, through messaging we could decide when we wanted to film and how long for etc.
